Bled, Slovenia:
Thursday, November 14

  • Wake by 8:00, packed by 8:15, at the bus station by 9:00, arrive in Bled by 10:40 - check in to a hotel by 11:00 and sleeeeeep
  • Clouds and mist drift by the castle high above Lake Bled - 200 yards from the front door of the hotel is the shoreline from which the church on the island is viewed
  • Fatigue is calmed and time for absorbing the magnitude of the journey comes
  • Good pizza in the afternoon (Italy borders Slovenia just to the west) - need something in English to read, but can't locate - why so tired?
  • Phone calls to the U.S. are incredibly difficult, necessary, expensive, exhausting
  • Afternoon at Arbor Bistro, what a find! - young bartender waits tables, talks - a lady comes in with a darling little five-year-old girl who is brought a treat from the kitchen - the bartender/father comes to pet and coo with the child - mother takes over and father and daughter leave - we compliment mother on daughter - time passes - he returns, mother and daughter leave - conversation with dad
  • Dinner - what an interesting wine carafe - is it Slovene?
  • Early to bed - why so tired?
