Prague:
Wednesday, November 6

  • Leaving golden Prague this evening - 8:00am rise for local pastry, fruit, goodbye to Leo and 121 (our address) - Trolley #22 into the train station for baggage "czech" - low on food
  • Go away unsatisfied to Muzeum stop on Metro - Wenceslas Square (Vaclav Nam) - appealing boulevard stretches before National History Museum - natural stuff, not political
  • Trees, shopping, hordes of people actively upbeat - look, snap... look, snap...
  • Lunch at Daminka restaurant - cheap, good food, get special including salad, soup, UH OH... liver and rice - gave Wade's away
  • Long, easy walk back past 13th century Powder Tower into the Old Town Square again - sun, blue - over the Charles Bridge again - more photos
  • Shopping for keepsakes - three lovely small photos - phone calls to home - too easy
  • Go for a beer - small, elegant restaurant with antique fixtures, modern feel - Pilsner
  • Out to walk 100 meters to local type bar for outrageous bargain in appetizer/supper: bread, bread, Edam cheese, ham, Pilsner (better than liver!)
  • Back over bridge, dusk setting in soon - walk, sit, find a bathroom (Dunkin' Donuts - best W.C. in Prague!)
  • Stall, head for station - dark, Wilsonova Street is not for pedestrians - suddenly a deadend walkway - such a dark under-highway pass - save a Japanese guy - get luggage - meet every tubercular Gypsy yet unseen
  • Thank God! - train arrives on time! Empty couchette compartment! Glory! - One young couple arrives, well, okay - two young women with major backpacks join, uh oh
  • All English-speaking: Welsh, Australian, Canadian, and us - laugh, talk, make beds - passport checks, trains uncoupled and coupled - more guards - no snoring, Wade remembers, he is awake the entire night
