Ljubljana, Slovenia:
Wednesday, November 13

  • Taxi right on time at 5:30am and cheap to Kelety Pu, the train station - fifty minutes early - right on to a lovely second class car - aaahhhhh
  • Smooth, sunny ride through fields, past resorts on Lake Balaton - signs in both Hungarian and German
  • Arrive Ljubljana around 3:00pm, later than expected - after walking in circles, we rent a private room - cheap and clean, but damp and cold - the mistress speaks only Slovenian and German - she lays down the law, rules for everything
  • After a short time, it's dinner at a glorious brew-pub where we have dark beer, new wine and the specialty of the house: goose (which the waiter says is "something like a chicken"), red cabbage, dumplings and baked apple
  • Back to the cave for a fitful sleep broken by thumping bass and drums from some nightclub down the street
